Description: Beautiful impressionistic Plein Air Style oil painting of old Hawaii by artist William Blackmore. William Blackmore was a Navy officer who painted as a hobby. He was said to have sold paintings at the Honolulu Zoo Art Fence and there are those who bought from him there in 1967... He painted beautiful scenes of the Windward Side and other areas. "Friends and colleagues remember him as a sweet and unassuming man, who painted as a hobby",( "BLACKMORE WAS AN AUDITOR AND NAVY OFFICER ", Honolulu Star Bulletin, Kokua Line, by June Watanabe, February 6th 2007). Yukio Ota, remembered him as an insurance rep with the Hawaii Insurance Rating Bureau (now the Hawaii Insurance Bureau). His nickname was "Shacky", for his liking to paint old Hawaiian Shacks. He died in 1976 and is believed to have left behind a daughter named Judy. This painting has been framed lovingly in a beautiful frame (as pictured), and has graced my walls for a long time, as my family are Kamaaina and Hapas. It evokes a time that is rapidly disappearing. It is reminiscent of the historic district in Lahaina, Maui, tragically gone. The style is evocative of Plein Air and the colors are vibrant still and beautiful.
