OLD SCHÖNBACH VIOLIN - JAN BAŠTA (Nr. 465)

Description: DEAR VIOLIN LOVERS AND COLLECTORS I am offering this old violin from my private collection:The violin comes from the famous violin-making region of Schönbach in Bohemia. The instrument is waiting for a patron or a violin maker to restore it to its old glory. Estimated age: 100-140 years Jan Bašta (b.1850 - d.05.03.1936) was a violin maker and musical instrument dealer. He worked in Luby. He used excellent wood, mostly varnished his instruments with yellow spirit varnish. He used different coloured vignettes, and put black stickers with gold printing on the more expensive violins. He employed local violin makers and sold his products all over Europe. In 1892, he was awarded the state silver medal at the first Bulgarian Provincial Exhibition in Plovdiv and the Meritorious Cross of the First Class and the Grand Diplomas of the Belgian and Neapolitan Academies, and was made an honorary member of both academies. This violin has two labels, one "Jan Basta" and the other "Jacobus Stainer 1640." (See please at the photo Nr. 1). The instrument is in very good condition except for one small 4 cm crack next (maybe it's just a groove) to the fingerboard (above the right f hole). Inside it has 4x corner blocks. It needs a new set, the soundpost is also missing. Used. Attic founding. Scratches. Corner block: 4Back in one piece.4 cm crack at the top plate (maybe it's just a groove).
