The coverage area extends from the Horn of Africa to the Cape of Good Hope, and the map is drawn on a polar projection, with longitude measured from Washington and Greenwich. It labels the Slave Coast on the Gulf of Guinea, a vast Unknown Regions, Soodan or Nigritia, Great Southern Zahara or Desert, the Congo River, Mountains of the Moon, and many small countries with tribal designations. The map was engraved by James H. Young and published in Conrad Malte-Brun's A New General Atlas Exhibiting The Five Great Divisions of the Globe, Philadelphia: John Grigg, 1829. The image area measures 20.2 x 25 cm [8" x 9¾"]. Condition: This map is in very good condition, with a bold, crisp impression. There is a tiny chip in the lower right corner and a small stain at the upper right. The map is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side.
