Frederick's story details how in 1994, when Frederick was a boy, his country was in the midst of a genocide in which more than 1 million Rwandans lost their lives. 3 years later, as a result of post-genocide violence, Frederick lost his hands in an unprovoked machete attack. His story of boundless hope begins at the intersection of this horrific attack. Frederick ultimately recovers from the attack, and has a vision to start a school for children with disabilities, which he co-founded in 2006 as the Ubumwe Community Center. Frederick has developed a passion for art and he paints regularly. This original painting is an example of his work.
