This was painted by Almond Baldwin who was born in 1800. It is in excellent condition for being close to 200 years old. Almon(d) Baldwin, a landscape and marine painter, who also did portraits, was born in Connecticut in 1800, and by 1814 had moved with his family to Cincinnati. Baldwin started out as a house painter, became a sign painter, then an artist, and finally a curator of the Western Art Union from 1847 to 1849.Baldwin was primarily a landscape and marine painter, but is also known to have painted portraits as well. He was married to Abigail Whittredge, sister of artist Worthington Whittredge, who had stayed with Baldwin in Cincinnati.
