Description: A finely engraved map of the Lower Alsace region around Strasbourg and covering part of France and Germany (north is oriented to the right of the sheet) from an relatively scarce English text edition of the Mercator / Hondius 'Atlas Minor'. Having acquired the plates to the 1607 edition of the 'Atlas Minor', the London booksellers Michael Sparke and Samuel Cartwright republished it as 'Historia Mundi or Mercator's Atlas', with the text translated into english. The presence of the supplemental English title in the left margin indicates that this map is from the 1637 edition. Cartographer / Engraver: Mercator / Hondius Provenance: 'Historia Mundi or Mercator's Atlas', published by Michael Sparke and Samuel Cartwright, London, 1637 Condition: Very good condition. Light age toning. Very occasional age spots to the margins. Slight rippling to the hand-laid paper. Slightly uneven lower edge of the sheet where it was once bound into the source publication, not affecting the printed area. Minor crease at the right edge of the sheet.
