Description: This is a single original GM cylinder head for a Big Block Chevy Engine. The original casting number was 3873858. This number was ground off BY GM and restamped with number 3904391. This is a known process of the factory early in the 67 model year. The date code is F 30 6 which decodes as June 30th, 1966. This head is the high performance version with rectangular intake ports and closed combustion chambers. The 3873858 head was used by GM on late 1966 L78 396/375HP and L72 427/425HP(450HP) engines. These 3873858 head was also used as a replacement for casting numbers 3856208, 3904391, and 3919840, and 3964291. What a rare find! This head is in good core condition as shown. It is bare with no valves, springs, etc. This head recently came out of the estate of a long time Corvette collector. He collected many nice parts with the aniticpation of needing them for future restorations. This head has been in storage for decades and will need to be rebuilt before use. It has been cleaned and checked for cracks with none found. All threads are in good shape with no helicoils or thread inserts. The ports look to have deburring as shown. The deck surface is still very thick. Both the intake and exhaust seats have been upgraded to hardened units. This head would be great as a replacement for your missing or damaged head.
