Description: This is for an original Type III News Service Photograph of New York Giants Hall of Famer Bill Terry from 1928 which is the same image used to make his 1932 U.S. Caramel card. The 1932 Caramel set was a 32 card set of “Famous Athletes” featuring cards of baseball players, golfers and boxers. The set is extremely scarce as it was only released in the Boston area and even though almost every card from every sport is a Hall of Famer, kids didn’t appreciate the plain headshots of all of the athletes against a plain red background. Not only that, one card Fred Lindstrom, was printed in such limited quantities that only a handful are known to exist today. Many collectors think that this was done to limit the prizes kids could receive by sending in a complete set of cards to get a baseball and three sets to receive a baseball glove. This extremely rare photo of Bill Terry was taken by the National League Service Bureau in 1928 and would be the image chosen to appear on his 1932 US Caramel card. While collectors continue to argue if the set is actually from 1933 instead of 1932, one thing stands assured and that is that all of the cards are extremely rare. Having an original photo which has been encapsulated and labeled as authentic along with being the image used for the card is even more rare. Not many exist and this could truly be a rare 1 of 1.
