Designed by: Frantisek Xaver Naske (1884-1959), in 1927 Printed in: Unie, Prague Total measurements: approx. 94,5x63cm Condition report: poster is overall in decent condition, was stored folded, shows some tears and creasing especially on edges, in corners and in fold line, some yellowing and stains Historical context: Frantisek Xaver Naske (1884-1959) he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, first as a preparatory student with Professor Bohumir Roubalik and then as a specialist in the years 1901–1907 with Professor Hanus Schwaiger. For the painting of the comedian and cabaret artist Leopold Smid, which he exhibited in 1907 at the Rudolfinum, he received a scholarship, which he used for study trips to the Netherlands, Belgium and Great Britain.He painted portraits of important personalities, especially artistic circles.Another area of his subjects were genre scenes from a big city and later exotic environment. He also created a number of provocative nudes, which contemporary critics condemned as works where "lust takes the place of artistic enthusiasm". Because of their likeability, his works were successful with a wide audience.Frantisek Xaver Naske created also a number of posters, applied graphics, caricatures, book covers and illustrations.
