This piece has delicate, hand applied gold gilt detailing, clawed feet, a centralized lion's head, and mirrored lion's bodies adorning each of the well caps. The "VA. Portugal" and "Made in Portugal" authenticating stamps on the underside of the inkwell date this piece to ~1947. As a company, Vista Alegre can trace its roots back to 1824. The company maintains ownership of the original estate (or the Fábrica de Porcelana de Vista Alegre) to this day, operating a Vista Alegre Museum from the property.This inkwell is in exceptional condition, with no signs of use, staining, or cracking. It hails from a private Tulsa, Oklahoma based antique collection and has been stored in a climate controlled "fine art secure storage" vault. All three of the original porcelain lids and matching compartments are accounted for. You'll note small amounts of dust accumulation on the inkstand interior. This piece still sports its original adhesive backed woven store tag, which describes the inkstand as a "white porcelain inkwell, Brass Overlay, Empire ABE".
