Description: This is a beautiful original Kitao Shigemasa woodblock print. I had this put in an acid free mat with green accent to match the green in the print. All it needs is a beautiful new frame as this does not have a frame only a Mat. Here is a little history on Kitao Shigemasa. Kitao Shigemasa (北尾 重政, 1739 – 8 March 1820) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist from Edo. He was one of the leading printmakers of his day, but his works have been slightly obscure. He is noted for images of beautiful women (bijinga). He was taught by Shigenaga and has been referred to as "a chameleon" who adapted to changing styles. He was less active after the rise of Torii Kiyonaga and produced relatively few works considering the length of his career.[1] He is also noted for his haikai (poetry) and shodō (Japanese calligraphy). In his later years he used the studio name Kosuisa. If you look at his Wikipedia page you will see a bird print like mine. Mat- 14 1/2 inches by 11 inches Picture- 10 3/4 inches by 7 inches Condition- Really nice considering its age. This has sat in our drawer for over 35 years. My wife and I collected hundreds of prints , Drawings and books with hand colored prints thinking we would open an antique store. Now that we are retired we halve no interest in a store so are selling on eBay. This is a real nice print that is why we bought it. All it needs is a frame. Would look nice in any home.
