DIXON" AND THE KLAP TRAPS TAIL GUNNER, "SGT. ANDREW F .WEISS TAIL GUNNER OF THE B17 BOMBER THE KLAP TRAP". UNDER THE TITLE OF THE PRINT IT FURTHER STATES "JANUARY THE 7th 1944 THE 96th BOMB GROUP 337th SQUADRON OF B-17 FLYING FORTRESSES HEAD TOWARD LUDWISHAFEN GERMANY". THIS IS THE MISSION THAT THE KLAP TRAP WAS SHOT DOWN ON AND AIR GUNNER ANDREW WEISS BECAME A GERMAN POW. THIS ORIGINAL PRINT IS DATED FOR 1981. PRINT WAS STORED ROLLED AND IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, SHOWING LIGHT WEAR AND AGE. THIS PRINT WOULD BE EXCELLENT TO FRAME AND HANG IN YOUR WAR ROOM. THIS PRINT IS IDENTIFIED TO U.S. ARMY AIR FORCES AIR GUNNER, GERMAN POW AND CAREER U.S. AIR FORCE VETERAN OF MORE THAN 30 YEARS, ANDREW F. WEISS AND CAME FROM HIS PERSONAL ESTATE. I WILL BE LISTING SEVERAL OTHER AUCTIONS/LISTINGS WITH MILITARY ITEMS FROM MR. WEISS ESTATE, SO CHECK THEM OUT IN MY EBAY STORE. A LITTLE HISTORY ON MR. WEISS, A TRULY GREAT AMERICAN. MR. WEISS WAS BORN IN 1923 IN BUFFALO, NEW YORK (ERIE COUNTY). ENLISTED AS A PRIVATE IN THE U.S ARMY AIR CORPS ON NOVEMBER 20, 1942. DURING 1942/43 PVT. WEISS TRAINED AS A AIR GUNNER AND SERVED IN THE 8th and 1st ARMY AIR FORCES DURING THE WAR. IN 1943 NOW SGT. WEISS WAS A TAIL GUNNER ON A B-17 FLYING FORTRESS (HEAVY BOMBER) NAMED THE "THE KLAP TRAP", 8th ARMY AIR FORCES 96th BOMB GROUP 337th SQUADRON AND HIS AIRCRAFT WERE SHOT DOWN OVER GERMANY ON JANUARY 7th 1944. SGT. WEISS WAS CAPTURED BY THE GERMANS AND HELD AT THE GERMAN POW CAMP "STALAG LUFT III" (CAMP THAT WAS MADE FAMOUS BY THE MOVIE THE GREAT ESCAPE) AND IN STALAG XVII-B, (STALAG 17-B) LOCATED IN KREMS, AUSTRIA. MR. WEISS WAS HELD AS A POW BY THE GERMANS FOR ONE AND A HALF YEARS. IN APRIL 1945 SGT. WEISS AND OTHER CAMP POWS WERE FORCED BY THE GERMANS TO MARCH TOWARDS THE AMERICANS LINES SO THEY (THE GERMANS) WOULD NOT BE CAPTURED BY THE RUSSIANS. IN MAY OF 1945 SGT. WEISS AND THE OTHER POWS WERE LIBERATED BY AMERICAN FORCES. NOW STAFF SGT. WEISS WAS REPATRIATED TO THE UNITED STATES WHERE HE WAS REASSIGNED AND S/SGT. WEISS STAYED IN THE U.S. ARMY AIR FORCES LATER THE U.S. AIR FORCE, BEING A CAREER AIR MAN AND RETIRING IN 1983 AS A MASTER SGT. IN THE USAF BEING LAST STATIONED AT THE U.S. AIR FORCE BASE LOCATED IN NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK. SADLY MR.WEISS PASSED AWAY ON FEBRUARY 14, 2016. THIS PRINT IS FROM MR. WEISS PERSONAL ESTATE.
