Description: If you have trouble caring for young miniature sized or micro-miniature sized African violets these pots could be just right for you. This offering is for 24 of the hard to find 1 ½ ” size white Oyama Planters and detailed, illustrated instructions on how to pot the planter, plus advice on growing African violets. This 1 ½ “ sized planter is the smallest of the Oyama planters. An Oyama planter is a two-piece plastic, self-watering flowerpot with a smooth rim to protect the leaf stems of your plant. The outer pot holds approximately one week’s water supply. Your mini violet (or other miniature plant) is potted directly into the inner pot using a soil less (peat moss based) medium. There is a tube built into the base of the inner pot. You fill the tube with perlite, a horticultural sand-like product and pot your plant on top of the layer of perlite. The tube filled with perlite contacts the water in the outer pot and slowly pulls it up into the soil for the plant in the inner pot. This 1 ½ “ diameter size planter is especially well suited to miniature or micro-miniature sized African violets. This offering is for the 24 planters only and does not include soil, perlite, fertilizer or plants. Over-watering is the main cause of failure with houseplants. The Oyama planter makes it very difficult to over-water because the water is pulled up to the plant slowly and steadily. You can mix your favorite plant food into the water and thereby feed and water your plant at the same time. Plants need air as well as water at the root level. The Oyama planter is one of the best at providing good air circulation to the root system without drying them out too much. The upper pot opening of the planter measures 1 ½ ” in diameter. From rim to rim the insert pot is 2 1/8” wide. The planting area is 1 ¼ “ deep. Overall the planter is 2 1/8 “ tall. The diameter of the base of the planter is 1 7/8“. There are guide-lines molded into the upper pot showing how deep the perlite should be. There are also guidelines in the lower pot showing how much water to put in. Do not fill the lower pot with water higher than the upper water guideline. Doing so could over-water your plant. The base holds 2 ½ Tablespoons of water. 1 teaspoon of perlite will fill the tube at the base of the upper section of the planter. 4 teaspoons of potting mix will fill the planter to near the rim. The playing card in the photo is for size comparison and is not part of the listing. This listing is for the twenty four planters only and does not include any perlite, potting mix, fertilizer or plants. Shipping will be via USPS Ground Advantage with tracking and insurance.
