Description: Past Patterns PP#0400Early 1910s Shirt Waists Sewing Pattern This Early 1910s Shirt Waist sewing pattern is a Past Patterns original design ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ These shirt waists have 'Gibson tucks' at the shoulder's edge that are named after the artist Charles Dana Gibson's famous Gibson Girl. This ubiquitous shirt waist can be made with a standing collar or a shirt collar. The cuffs can be straight or turned back. The front closure can be made with a pleat at the front or a fly front. The shoulders are quite square. An inverted box pleat adds interest to the back view. When made in white cotton, stiffly starched, and worn with a bow at the neck, a leather belt and dark skirt, Shirt Waists like this were the favorite uniform of the office or factory girl who wished to impress her employer with her efficiency. 2 variations of Shirt Waist can be constructed with this pattern package. We do this with the hope that people will start creating and wearing reproductions instead of antique originals. The clothes we wear and that our grandparents wore are part of our cultural history. Just as you would not abuse antiques furniture by cutting off decorative trim, so you should not abuse antique garments by wearing them. Our second goal is that you pick up a little bit of history when you sew the garment. The fit, the cut, the fasteners, the fabric design, just to mention a few things, are part to the technology of the time. Our third goal, in sewing the patterns, is to spark an interest in genealogy and local history. Researching local history is always a rewarding pursuit. SKU 0400 Thanks for looking!
