Description: This is an old engagement ring setting for a pear-shaped diamond. I work for a goldsmith, so I asked him to set a new stone -- a 0.61 carat Zambian sapphire in a pale shade of green with a touch of blue. I got the sapphire from a gem dealer, Land Gems of Los Angeles, who said the stone is from Brazil and it has not been treated other than heat, which is customary and permanent. Note that the color is pale green but it's a fairly clean stone (i.e., it's transparent) so it will pick up the color of whatever's around it, thus the stone looks darker than it is in some of my photos. The four-prong stone basket is white gold while the rest of the ring is yellow gold. The shoulders are split from top to bottom instead of from the front, which is a nice detail. The band has tidy squared edges and is 1.5mm wide. The inside of the ring is stamped "GCL" and "14K." I don't know who belongs to the GCL mark. My boss (goldsmith) says this ring is probably around 80 years old. This ring weighs just 1.38 grams and is a size 4.5. It can be resized.
