Philip James Bailey / 1884 short signed note sending accompanying lines

Description: 1884 short signed note sending "accompanying lines" Author: Bailey, Philip James Title: 1884 short signed note sending "accompanying lines" Publication: Blackheath, London: 1884 Description: 7 x 4.5 inches, one side filled in. Written from Bailey's home, La Bagatelle in Blackheath, and sent to a Mr. Steele in Chicago, Bailey writes, "Dear Sir, I send you the accompanying lines with great pleasure and trust they may commend themselves to your approval." Bailey (1816-1902) is best known for his long historico-metaphysical poem "Festus," first published in 1839; he was known as a "spasmodic poet," derogatorily so, for the deep influence Byron had on his works.
