Description: This interesting photo album contains images from the 1920's through several years after the end of World War II. The first section of the album are photos of families, I'm guessing relatives, taken in both the US and Germany. The first page has photos of a man with a European looking town behind him, a picture of a man in a blooming orchard and a portrait photo of a woman - all are stamped with a photographer's name and "Esslingen", which is a town in the Stuttgart region of Germany. Photos that follow include a large wedding gathering with girls holding flowers and boys in lederhosen. There's a charming photo of a little boy ready for a bath sitting next to a small enamel basin with a doll that looks like him sitting in the water. A portrait of a man, woman and little boy is identified as the "familie Ackermann". Many of the photos have dates from the 20's and 30's above of on them but no other information. The family snapshots that follow appear to have been taken in America - there's a crowded beach with a building with "Bath" over the door, 2 people on horseback, people in front of American style clapboard and brick houses and even several baseball team photos with what looks like "Cardinals" on their uniforms (definitely not St. Louis!) There's a real photo postcard taken by Sherman Movie Photos of Wildwood, New Jersey of a mother and son on their seaside boardwalk. A loose 7 by 5 inch photo of a large group of young men in front of what looks like a school has the names written on the back -"Guenther Ackermann" the same last name as on the German portrait, is at the top - the variety of last names identify this as an American group - English, Scottish, German, Italian and more. One page shows a little boy on board ship holding a life ring stamped "New York Hamburg". Next are photos with young men is US Army uniforms posing in front of American looking homes. Next is a soldier standing in front of a bridge with Mannheim in large letters across it with a crest on top, and photos of soldiers at a Red Cross tent, and in a small room with cots. Mannheim, in southern Germany, was heavily bombed during the war and occupied by the allies in 1945. There are a number of photos of soldiers including some small photo booth images. Some stand in front of a building with a sign in German and a sign with number and the abbreviation forUS battalion headquarters. 2 real photo postcards have the name Voightlander on the back. I found images by this company of German soldiers during the war and occupation forces after it. One of the images shows 2 men in matching long white coats on skis. The 11 1/2 by 9 inch album has image on 28 pages and a total of 103 photos, some apart from the book. There are some real photo postcards, snapshots, many 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches, several larger studio photos and a few small photobooth type images 1 1/2 by 2 inches - one of a soldier is in color. The cover has some light soiling but is otherwise in good condition. Most of the photos are clear and in good condition.
