Description: 25 Piennolo del Vesuvio paste tomato seeds July-Aug 2023 for 2024 season - open-pollinated grown without herbicides and pesticides. This is an interesting variety grown in Naples, Italy. The tomatoes are 1.5 to 2 inches and egg/pear shaped with a pointed end. These are cooking/paste tomato grown for their thick skins and drier fruit so the fruits can be hung on ristas for several months and used out of season(check out online videos to get a better idea). Tomatoes sets are harvested before fully ripened and hung in a cool/dry location as they fully ripen. Very resistant to cracking and insects due to thick skin. Also no issues with blossom end rot. If you want a tomato that has a long shelf life and can be used in tomato sauces, this is a great choice. The plants grow about 3-4 feet on whispy vines. It requires a cage or staking, but very manageable size and suggest growing closer together than most tomatoes since it doesn't bush out. Days to harvest is 65 to 70 days from transplanting outdoors. Germination rate: 80+% in 5-7 days at 75-80 degrees FSeed are inoculated Tips:Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost, plant 1/4 inch deep. Transplant outdoors when temperatures remain above 50 degrees F. Store seeds in a cool and dry place and tomato seeds should remain viable for up to 10 years. Shipped via first-class mail.
