Description: Ammonites were a type of marine mollusk that lived in the ocean for over 350 million years. They were cephalopods, a group of predators that also includes octopuses, squids, cuttlefish, and the nautilus. Ammonites had coiled, external shells that were similar to the modern nautilus, and they could grow to be as large as a car. They were born with small shells and added new chambers as they grew.
