Description: John Fitch, Inventor of the Steamboat, born January 21, 1743, at South Windsor, Connect- icut; died July 2, 1798, at Bardstown, Kentucky. His original model, now in the National Mu- seum at Washington, D. C., made in 1786. This monument was erected in compliance with an act of Congress approved February 12, 1926.
