Description: Up for auction is a rich specimen of this uncommon mineralization from the Gold Hill District in Utah! This specimen consists of a matrix of quartz and actinolite covered in numerous exposures of bright metallic molybdenite fans. Numerous smaller exposures of Powellite are present throughout the specimen, although they are rather unexceptional under normal lighting. This larger specimen measures approximately 11.2 cm by 8.7 cm by 6.2 cm, and would make an excellent addition to any mineral collection. The Rustler Mine was worked largely from 1914 to 1918, and was originally worked through a vertical shaft 105 feet deep. The ore body was largely removed by means of an open stope to the surface. Discovered and worked by the Wilson Brothers, the ore contained some gold, but largely consisted of chalcopyrite, galena, tetrahedrite, scheelite, and molybdenite. A large body of scheelite was originally located near the shaft containing crystals as much as 4 inches in length. Sadly, that material was entirely removed and shipped for processing.
