Description: Here we have a very nice, well preserved socket bayonet for the US M1816 musket. This bayonet has a 15 3/4" blade length, 19" overall length, and a 3" socket. The socket diameter is approximately .83 at the front of the socket. The blade is stamped as follows: "US" over "SC" indicating that it was made for the US government and inspected by Samuel Chandler of the Springfield Armory, where it was forged. It features a prow type point. These bayonets were manufactured by the Springfield and Harpers Ferry Armories, until about 1844, and were used during the Mexican-American War and the first two years of the Civil War. This example is in very good shape overall, and includes a unique leather scabbard. No pitting or rust present. Great Patina, and will be an amazing addition to your collection!
