Description: The ideal soil mixture for propagating all types of moss. Use for moss gardens, terrariums, and vivariums. It consists of finely textured mineral soil and organic sphagnum peat moss. The mineral soil provides a smooth, compact, acidic surface for the moss to cling to while the peat helps retain the moisture that moss needs to thrive. The result is that you will be able to grow a lush, green carpet of moss over your desired surface in no time. Due to its low nutrient content, this substrate will also discourage the growth of other types of plants which would otherwise compete with your moss. (Moss grows from rhizomes instead of actual roots, and therefore it does not need nutrient-rich soil to thrive. Smooth, hard, acidic, nutrient poor soil is preferred.) Note: You can order this soil with moss spores included (select the option above). This way you would not need to supply your own moss. You can simply add water and soon the moss will begin to grow on its own. Instructions:1. Spread the soil where you would like your moss to grow. Make sure the soil is compacted and smoothed out.2. Use the appropriate amount of light. Moss grown outdoors prefers to be in the shade, while moss grown under artificial light benefits from much more light.
