Description: This is a covered vegetable dish from the Purinton Pottery Company. Purinton made pottery in Ohio and Pennsylvania from the mid-1930’s until its closing in 1959. The pattern is Apple (sometimes called Open Apple to not be confused with a more filled in apple that was part of the Fruit pattern). The pottery is hand-painted slipware. This oval dish is about 7" wide and 4.5" high. There is a mark on the bottom and a few light scratches, but no chips or cracks. There are a few glaze pops and tiny flea bites. There is a little drop of green paint on the lid and a couple of rough places on the lid where the glaze missed. Please see the photos for details. The painted design is still vibrant in shades of red, brown, teal, and green. These pieces bring back memories of American kitchens of the 1940s and 50s. If that is a style that speaks to you, you will love owning this piece of pottery history. Please see my other listings for more pieces in this pattern.
