Two small insets lower left of Amoy Island & Bay of Canton. A small engraved note to right of title indicates "ports recently opened to trade by trade treaties are underlined". These features plus the unusual scrolled border is only found with this imprint for a very brief moment in cartographic publishing history.In attractive well preserved condition. Short closed tear to top left blank margin, overall uniform gentle toning to paper, still mostly clean, well preserved and attractive example of a Civil War era map.Sheet measures c. 17 1/4" x 13 1/2"Engraved area measures c. 15" x 12 1/2"[R35714]. Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers , v. 2, p. 443, noting the scarce J & W imprint only appears briefly between c.1862-5.
