Description: Extremely rare outstanding condition Redwood City No Mod Proto Putter with fully intact hand shaved black Golf Pride Informer grip. Putter is 35 inches in length, center shafted with a 10 1/2 inch first step chrome plated shaft and Golf Pride Informer Grip. Putter head's faces are clean and clear of any pitting or has minor casting mars and in almost pristine condition with deep patina. As are its heal, toe and sound channel. Since these putter heads were wet sand casted, there is a tendency for there to be some pits from the casting process. Karsten attempted to mill/file these out to some extent, but couldn't fully remove some as it would impact putter head weight/specifications. Hence, there are some casting pits, but these do not impact the putter's performance or value. This putter has no water displacement stamping. Golf Pride Informer grip is fully intact with no rips, tears or cracking. Grip was hand shaven down by Karsten himself when he and his sons constructed these putters in his Garage in Redwood City, California. This is a true collectors item that should be displayed but can be gamed and become an instant conversation piece. These are truly hand made putters, from the milling/filing of the heads to the insertion of the shaft and then application of the grip. This is the putter that gave Ping its name and is the Prototype/first version of what is known today as the Phoenix Ping 1A putter. There were two other versions, the Mod I and the Mod IA, the Mod IA became the model for today's Ping 1A.
