Photographer: Lawrence Location: Worcester, Massachusetts (MA) Date: C.1880's INFO: Full Name: William Robinson Hill Born: Douglas, MA - February 10, 1815 Death: Wilkinsonville, MA - November 19, 1887 Son of Micah Hill & Sally (Marsh) Hill At 12 Entered Clerkship his Uncles Store in East Douglas, attending school. At 14 he became a clerk at the Manchaug Manufacturing Company. At 15 became Clerk of Wadsworth & Fowler in East Douglas. In 1830 he went to New Worcester & worked for Wadsworth & Metcalf. In 1831 he went to Uxbridge and Clerked for Amasa Dudley. In 1833 He was employed by J. L. Dudley In 1836 he partnered in a mercantile business with James L. Dudley. The partnership was dissolved in 1844 when Mr. Dudley Died. Mr. Hill continued with the business till 1884 During those forty-eight years he was the Book Keeper and Paymaster for the Sutton Manufacturing Company. He served as Postmaster until his death! He was on the Boards of Assessors, Selectmen & School Committee. He served in the House of Representatives in 1861, 1862 and served in the State Senate in 1863. Served as Director of the Grafton National Bank. Served for 10 years as President of Millbury Savings Bank. Served the Worcester County Musical Association as President for 14 years!
