Description: ‘Look & Remember’. A rare and sought-after remark found hiding on this wonderful Georgian mourning locket ring. Made of solid 9 carat gold, its oversized head is set with a superb large, rounded navette-shaped locket compartment containing a beautifully woven hair memento. A repeating hand engraved pattern to its bezel, the band is a gorgeous thick, ribbed gold channel with ornate trifurcated shoulders. The back of the ring’s head is curved to fit the finger, and stipple engraved with the initials ‘AL’. But very unusually, it’s ornately engraved ‘Look & Remember’ to the canted edges of the back of the head - this is a rare and tender message to the living, a carpe diem reminder to gracefully face our own end and to think fondly of those gone before us. It’s in fair condition for its age, with wear mainly to the back of the head, light scratching to the glass surface, and the band is an old replacement. It weighs in at 5.7 grams, and its head measures an impressive 33 x 19 mm. It’s a ring size 8, resizable a little and dates to around 1770.
