Description: Bronzed bust titled “Bonjour” by the famed art nouveau sculptor Emmanuel Villanis. Emmanuel Villanis (1858-1912) was active in Paris and won many accolades, including recognition at several Salons and World Fair Exhibitions. He is best known for his striking and spirited bronze busts of prominent women including celebrities of the day, heroines, biblical figures, and goddesses. This bust has two patinas, and is an exceptionally rare subject for the prolific sculptor. Rarely seen at auction, “Bonjour” depicts an allegory of the morning with the all cheeky charm of the art nouveau period. “Bonjour” is one of only a handful of busts with arms by Villanis (others being “Rebecca Au Puits” and “Fille D’Eve”). This sculpture is not signed or marked, as was typical of many of the sculptor’s busts done in bronzed metal / spelter. Scratches and scraps documented in photos. Dimensions: 15.5 inches high and 13 inches arm-to-arm.
