Description: This is a larger ANTIQUE 18th Century early lighting device, a double crusie, fat, grease, whale oil or Betty lamp, all names that apply, made out of sheet tin and wrought iron. This one is Pennsylvania Dutch and features nicely and highly stylized birds, with highly decorative cut work and engraved patterns. The smaller oil cup attaches to the larger oil cup by means of an adjustable iron arm and can be separated into two pieces. It has the original iron spike hanger that allows it to hang on a mantle, a window, or wherever is handy, or to a beam using the very sharp spike. The lamp is about 8 1/2" high (without the spike) and the spike is 7” long. The grease cup is about 4” by 2 7/8”. Overall excellent condition with no damages and no rust and with original black paint which shows wear. It does have a bend in the stem of the larger piece and this looks like it is original to the piece and not damage; it sits on the flat with a lean, but the smaller piece fits easily and perfectly onto the larger and it of course hangs perfectly straight. It is all original but for the small connecting link between the spike and the lamp neck, which was possibly replaced; this is not very noticeable, especially from the front view. Age related surface wear to be expected. Please review all photos as the main part of description.
