Description: RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN ANTIQUE TIGER MAPLE HARDWOOD LARGE WOODEN ROLLING PIN, with FINELY CARVED, ORNATE DECORATIVE CONTIGUOUS HANDLES[Fashioned from a single maple square board](Circa 1820-1845) Early-mid 19th c American antique primitive figured maple wood furniture & kitchen accessories DIMENSIONS: 18 ½" Length x 2 ¾" Height Weight: 1 lb. 14.9 oz. DESCRIPTION:An extraordinarily beautiful object and rare early to mid 19th century American antique decorative object in very well preserved overall antique condition, with only some drying fissures to the barrel of the tiger maple hardwood antique rolling pin, that have occurred naturally over time and which don't constitute damage. The tiger maple, lathe-turned and hand carved rolling pin is an exceptional American decorative accessory that was created here in New England between most likely the end of the United States' Federal period of 1820 to the beginning of the Empire period in about 1845, and even possibly earlier. Often decorative trends, such as the styling used and the choice of diseased or figured maple hardwood, would still be used even after the peak of its popularity in the early 19th century. Needless to say, this object is close to, if not approaching 200 years in age and for it to have remained in this kind of well preserved overall antique condition, is testament to Yankee thriftiness and how nothing was ever discarded. A rare and simply magnificent early American antique decorative accessory. God just isn't dropping tiger maple rolling pins it seems out of the sky like raindrops anymore. Extraordinary. CONDITION:Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition.
