Description: Extremely Rare Fabergé Duchess of Marlborough Egg Clock Reproduction by Vivian Alexander - Limited Edition Artist Proof of 90 In 1998, Vivian Alexander, one of America’s foremost Fabergé-style artists, collaborated with the Malcolm Forbes Family, renowned for its publishing empire and extraordinary collection of world-class objets d’art—particularly Peter Carl Fabergé creations, one of the largest collections worldwide. This collection included some of Fabergé’s most beautiful and valuable works, such as the Imperial Lilies of the Valley Egg, Imperial Coronation Egg, Imperial Chanticleer Egg Clock, Duchess of Marlborough Egg Clock, and Imperial 1894 Renaissance Egg. The Duchess of Marlborough Egg Clock by Vivian Alexander is a stunning tribute to the only major egg created by Peter Carl Fabergé for an American. Measuring 13½ inches tall and 5½ inches wide at its widest point, the clock features a revolving opaque white enamel band with gold Roman numerals. The hour is marked by the golden tongue of a serpent with a 3-carat pear-shaped white topaz head, encrusted with rose-cut diamonds. The hand-turned guilloché egg is coated in lustrous transparent pink enamel and adorned with hundreds of cultured seed pearls and golden garlands of roses and bows. Rams’ heads support its intricately carved gold handles, while a diamond-encrusted pineapple finial crowns the clock. Gold armorial medallions are set into the creamy white panels of the triangular base. This piece was sent to Vivian Alexander in 2019 for a complete restoration, during which the old enamel was stripped, extensive research was conducted to match colors closer to the original, and a new technique was used: layering gold metallic paint with custom enamel blends to achieve a result that closely replicates Fabergé’s original. •Limited Edition: Artist’s Proof of 90 pieces •Materials: 3-carat pear-shaped white topaz, 280 rose-cut white sapphires, gold-plated copper guilloché egg, cold-cast bronze base, cultured seed pearls, enamel •Retail Cost: $14,900 (A special diamond series, featuring a gilded sterling silver egg with a pewter base and 280 rose-cut diamonds, retailed at $30,000; only five pieces were produced.) •Dimensions: 13.5” tall by 5.5” wide •Box: The collector’s box replicates the original design used for Fabergé’s Duchess of Marlborough Egg. About The Forbes Collection This prestigious collection merges the distinctive artistry of Vivian Alexander with the legendary legacy of Forbes, creating a unique opportunity for the discerning investor and collector. The collection features objets de fantaisie by the leading Fabergé-style artist in America, licensed by one of the world’s foremost collectors of Fabergé art. Pieces in “The Forbes Collection” by Vivian Alexander are directly inspired by the works of Russian goldsmith Peter Carl Fabergé. As the creator of Fabergé-inspired eggs in the minaudière and guilloché styles, Vivian Alexander continues an artistic tradition that once defined an era in Russian history. The partnership between Vivian Alexander and The Forbes Magazine Collection, formed in 1998, was groundbreaking for modern reproductions of Fabergé works, as no original Fabergé collection had previously allowed its objects to be replicated. Through a licensing agreement with the former Forbes Magazine Collection, selected Fabergé Eggs were meticulously designed and replicated for “The Forbes Collection.” Each piece is crafted with exquisite materials and the utmost precision. Alexander Caldwell, president of Vivian Alexander, had the privilege of closely studying these historic objets d’art. Accompanied by his team, he visited the Forbes Gallery in New York, where they documented every detail under the guidance of the Forbes curator. The finished reproductions were then presented to the Forbes family for inspection. About Vivian Alexander In 1991, after noticing the small handbags at a Mardi Gras ball, Alex Caldwell was inspired to design a more refined minaudière. He created an elegant hard-sided evening purse using an ostrich egg, Austrian jewels, and gold fittings, and the response was overwhelming. He named the business Vivian Alexander, combining his name with his girlfriend’s. After mastering guilloché enameling, Caldwell was invited to the Forbes Museum in New York to study their Fabergé collection, among the finest in the world. For seven years, he worked closely with the museum curator, studying Fabergé’s creations in private. Today, Vivian Alexander’s creations draw from the works of Fabergé and Van Cleef & Arpels, producing some of the world’s finest minaudières. Each hard-sided evening purse is crafted with fine (.999) silver, intricate guilloché patterns, translucent enamels, and Austrian crystals.
