Description: This charming etching titled Schwarzwalhaus or “Black Forest House” is a beautiful piece by German artist Ferdinand Dörr (1880-1968). Dörr’s portfolio is filled with detailed etchings, which today are appreciated for their representation of German rural life in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Etched May 4th, 1945, a note on the back of the frame indicates that this piece was dedicated to a Dr. and Mrs. H.N. Viseberg (1855-1945 and 1866-1937, respectively), presumed family friends of Dörr. Interestingly, there is a small drawing outside the border of the etching that appears to depict a well or well pump, a likely indication that this piece is a one-of-a-kind artist proof. Frame: 13 ¼” (H) x 12 ⅛” (W)Scene: 6 ⅜” (H) x 7 ¾” (W) Condition: Overall, this piece is in good condition and shows age-appropriate wear-and-tear. The etching itself is in good condition with some yellowing. The frame has a chip on the bottom left corner and some scrapes around the perimeter (for example, see the left border). For further perspective, please inspect the photos carefully. As this is a vintage print, it is being sold as is.
