Brand: Mitsubishi Inscription: Chūseikai 忠成会 and the organization’s emblem on one side, Mitsubishi emblem, HB and Japanese Industrial Standard logo 180 degrees from it. Hardness: HBDate: c.1970Condition: NOS, unused. Abrasions, staining and foxing on the box. Minor soiling and foxing on the pencils. Loss of the gilt in lettering. Mitsubishi pencils are among the best pencils made in the world.Pencil manufacturers often added messages on pencils from companies, universities and sport meetings. They were usually given away, and are subsequently more difficult to obtain. These are exceedingly rare, for they were commissioned by Yakuza umbrella association from Hyōgo Prefecture and given away as community outreach. Most likely these were commissioned shortly after the organization was created in 1970 as anti-Yamaguchi Gumi association by several smaller Yakuza groups from Kobe, Osaka, Himeji, Kitakyūshu, Okayama and Hiroshima.
