Description: This ring was highly sought after in 1937. It came as a premium from Ovaltine (nutritional drink mix developted in 1904), Radio Orphan Annie's commercial sponsor. Children who had the decoder ring were encouraged to listen to the radio show, during which they'd receive an encoded message that could only be decoded if one was in possession of that year's decoder ring. The ring or pin changed from year to year, insuring that only current members could decode the secret messages. (insuring that children would pester their parents to buy Ovaltine.) Each side has her crossed keys symbol and initials "ROA" standing for Radio Orphan Annie. Top surface has lines of tiny numerals to be decoded using the 1937 decoder. Message translates to "I Am A Silver Star Member Of Orphan Annie's Secret Society And Belong To The Circle Of Her Special Friends." It is currently a 7.5 ring size but I am happy to adjust it.
