Description We are proud to be able to offer a fine FIRST EDITION original hand colored engraving by George Edwards (1694–1773), from the difficult to acquire work entitled Sammlung Verschiedener Auslandischer Und Seltener Vogel. Seligmann re-engraved the earlier plates of both Edwards and Mark Catesby. George Edwards was an English draughtsman and proficient ornithologist. He worked as the Librarian tothe Royal College of Physicians which eventually allowed him to pursue publishing his own bird studies and drawings. Edwards really drove the prominence of bird and animal illustration in his time and thus became known as 'The Father of British Ornithology.'
