Description: Beautiful and rare late 19th century Staffordshire Double Handled Large Farmer or Loving Cup featuring black transfer designs, c. 1889. Made of earthenware, the cup displays large comical scenes, on the front 'THE SINGING MAN CARRIES A SHOP IN HIS THROAT' and back 'BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER', as well as the base 'GAPEING,' and the interior base 'SMOKING.' The rim features three different transfer scenes with donkey racing, girls racing, and a man with horseshoes; sides have applied scrolled handles. Measures 5" high x 5" diameter; holds over 32 ounces. In very good antique condition, there has been a repair to the handle as well as a few chips to the side, both handles have a small chip to the underside of the scrolled edge and a few spots of discoloration as shown.
