Description: Very rare EMD and Allison Turbelex gas turbine train brochure. Yes, that's right, a train brochure as suggested through a joint venture between two GM divisions, Electro-Motive and Allison. I believe that this dates to the early 1960's. This brochure not only suggests that EMD install an Allison T-45 gas turbine into a locomotive, it also suggests that they would offer a state-of-the-art fully functional passenger train. That is in stark contrast to EMD's business plan to only sell locomotives and other power and marine engines. I believe that this brochure was actually part of a proposal to General Motors by EMD and Allison back in the early 1960's to expand their business models. Having come off a disastrous showing of the Aerotrain, I'm guessing this proposal fell on deaf ears and as we know, was never produced. Has 17 separate sections that include artist sketches, costs, performance, etc. I would bet that this is the only copy remaining of this proposal. Cover shown as part of a 2019 Classic Trains article named "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda". Condition is a solid 9 and I would say close to a 10 but I'm sure you can find a flaw if you look close enough. No marks, writing, or creases. Will ship USPS with full insurance.
