Description: Rare World Typewriter - Beautiful example! Pat. OCT 12, 1886These index typewriters were initially produced by the World Type-Writer Company of Portland Maine, then by Pope Manufacturing of Boston MA (the factory was in Hartford CT). You can see from the metal label on this model that it was manufactured by Pope. We believe this to be the Model 2, which can type 76 characters! It is an early unit - with Serial # 958. It is in very good condition with no chips or scratches to the wood base. There are a couple of scratches in the paint on the metal label which can be seen in the pics. Overall in great condition for it's age. We have not cleaned this item, the ink pads are dry, and have not tried to type. We are not typewriter experts.
