Offered for your consideration is a nice vintage Sears Craftsman hunting knife. This piece was made by Schrade and it's from their 49er series that was made in the mid 1970's. Schrade only offered this series for a few years and the Craftsman branded examples are very difficult to come by today. This was Schrade's model 498 and it features unique texturing on the guard and pommel as shown. This model was offered by Schrade from 1973 to 1977. The knife has seen light appear unused and It has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original. This is a classic U.S. made hunter that was very solidly made. It offers full measures of the quality and performance that built Schrade's reputation as one of the world's leading knife brands. The thick carbon steel blade is free of any significant corrosion or pitting. The blade has not been sharpened and the edge is free of any nicks, chips, dings, or damage. Blade is sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use. The spine is completely free of any dings, dents, marring, or damage. The brass guard remains solid and tight with no damage or marring and just a bit of light tarnish. The guard is also of thick brass and it has a peened finish. The pommel remains completely solid and tight. It's free of any significant marring or damage with just a couple light dings along the right edge as shown. The handle is Schrade's classic "Staglon" (Delrin) simulated stag and it has a great look all the way around. It's free of any cracks, chips, marring, or damage with no stains or discoloration. The finger-grooved design offers a firm, comfortable grip and great blade control. The entire knife is rock-solid and completely tight with not a wiggle or rattle anywhere.The blade is 4-1/2" and the knife measures just under 9" in overall length.The leather belt sheath is the original and it's of excellent quality. It was crafted from thick leather and it has an extra wide retainer strap. All stitching is intact as are the five steel rivets. The surfaces are free of any tears, cuts, cracking, or damage and the leather is free of any stains or discoloration as well. It shows just some normal wear and it's free of any water or environmental damage. The retainer strap is the original and snaps tightly closed.A very solid and original example of this scarce Schrade-made Craftsman hunting knife!
