Description: Early 1900s watercolor of the coast, likely Rhode Island, by listed New England and Seattle artist Raymond Leroy Hill (1891-1980). The following biography is from Mark Murray Fine Paintings in New York: Raymond Hill was born in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. He was a pupil at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence and the California School of Fine Arts, San Francisco and studied with Dante Sicci in Rome, Italy.From 1927 to 1961, Hill was a professor in the art department at the University of Washington in Seattle. He had one-man exhibitions at the Denver Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum, Provincetown Art Gallery, Providence Art Club, Tacoma Art League, the Henry Gallery, Seattle and the University of Washington.Best known as a Seattle artist, Hill also worked and exhibited in New England and was a member of the Providence Art Club. This 1911 watercolor was likely done while Hill was a student at RISD. It is signed and dated lower right, measures 6.75" x 9" (sight size) and is in good condition with minor toning of the paper and fading of the colors. Framed but without glass.
