B. Helleberg Modernist Silver Medal, Box & Stand, Struck at Franklin Mint, 1971

Description: 1971 Berndt Helleberg Sculpture Medallion Modernist sports abstract design by renown Swedish artist B. Helleberg struck by the Franklin Mint. Very reminiscent of Picasso and Cubanism movement. The medal is solid sterling silver and includes the original black marble base with metal pin to display the medal and the original box. One side of the rim is marked: STRUCK AT THE FRANKLIN MINT - SOLID STERLING SILVER, and the other has the hole for the pin to mount on the base. Both sides are marked B Helleberg 1971 and one side is also marked Sverige for Sweden. The medal is 2.5" diameter and weighs198 grams or 6.4 Troy ounces. The base weighs 288 grams, total weight 487 grams. The base is 2.3" wide and 1.3" high. The medal is marked Sverige for Sweden. Cover of box reads Societe de la Sculputure de Medailles, translates to the Society of Medal Sculpture. The photos show the top of the box and a lightened version so you can read the writing in the photo. Research indicates this is from a limited edition set of silver medals minted by the Franklin Mint over 40 years ago, called the Societe de la Sculpture de Medailles Collection which had 15 medals in the set. It was a series depicting an original art work on the obverse and the artist's self-portrait on the reverse. They were struck on a high relief on a massive planchet of solid sterling silver.
