Description: The 700 was only made from 54-56 and less than 1500 were ever made (much less in existence and even less in great condition), making this one of the most desirable & collectible Wurli’s of all time! She works flawlessly with no issues and includes the elusive piano bench and the equally elusive removable wooden music stand. The Bob Dylan Wurli! 100% serviced from head to toe. Tube powered amplifier is in amazing shape, beautifully clean inside and out. This is the spinet/console version of the model Dylan used in 62’ &’63 at CBS Studios, and he also used the 700/120 model extensively in other recordings as did Billie Joel, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Paul Mcartny, Supertramp and Elton John. I paid about 4k for this July 1st for an upcoming Dylan biopic film which wrapped in July. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the space for another piano. The 700 is simply a console version of the more portable 120 and a bit its distant relative, the 140 (&145). If you’re not going to be dragging it around to gigs, this is the way to go because it also features a 12” Alnico speaker which was the largest and fattest sounding wurli ever made (most did NOT have 12” speakers and most dide not utilize the beefy 6V6 tube amps). I now need to free up space for more incoming gear so it’s got to go. Fully overhauled and sounds just like you’d expect… but better. Can’t say enough how madly in love I am with this but I have a larger piano coming in I have no room for so it’s gotta go. If you’d like to channel Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder or Paul Mcartny, there’s no Wurli that does it better than the 6V6 tube powered 700. It was also recently tuned and calibrated. A few notes hang in sustain from time to time but hey, it‘s a 70 year old electronic marvel so it’s going to have its fun quirks, like anything else. It feels and sounds amazing when played and is the definitive sound of so many iconic records of yesteryear. An absolutely killer example of a very rare rig, ready for your home studio. It’s unheard of to still have both the music stand AND the original wooden bench, both of which are included. The vibe of the sound is very similar to a Fender Rhodes but with that classic Wurli plunky sound I’ve come to love in my wurli 200. It really is a blend of those two iconic sounds into one keyboard. The 200 has a very wurli sound and this leans further into the rhodes sound, especially on the low end, providing that fat growl we know and love in a Rhodes. Check out the quick YouTube demo of this lovely electromagnetic pickup piano below. The gritty warm tone is powered by a lovely 6V6 all tube amplifier and voiced from a 12” Alnico speaker inside the Spinet Style wooden enclosure. I’m not 100% tge Speaker is original. While the design looks right, the speaker looks new but I don’t know for sure as it came to me like this. This particular piano was purchased in June of 2024 to be used on the Jersey shot Bob Dylan Biopic “A Complete Unknown“ and is now for sale again. It includes the freshly tuned and voiced piano, the ultra rare original piano bench and original music stand. The back and lid is removable as shown in the video. The amp is recapped and calibrated. Other than the electrolytic capacitors, speaker upgrade and a safer modern 3 prong cable upgrade, it is all original! Notable artists to have used this piano are Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Elton John, Herbie Hancock, The Doors, Paul Mcartny, Supertramp, Stevie Wonder and Billie Joel… Whew! The 700 has the advantage over the later transistor models of a much warmer tone and presence due to its all tube amp design. While it is a bit more gritty, it is generally more pleasing and arguably records far better in the studio than a 200. The 700 series is slightly less portable due to the wooden body construction style, although the spinet style frame (smaller 40” height) is surprisingly light and manageable, weighing in at only 70lbs! Pickup in nyc area (20 min from manhattan in northern NJ). Delivery available but discouraged and shipping sale will be sold “as-is.” Delivery renders the sale strictly “as is“ with no option to return for any reason. $500 shipping fee is modest and will probably be more. Buyer will pay actual shipping. I’ll probably build a wooden crate around it for you. Pickup is greatly preferred as this is a very delicate and fragile vintage instrument. Shipping sale is final, no returns. Shipping will probably have to be crated. I much rather a pickup. I can deliver for a small nominal fee. Open to trades.
