Description: This is a rare May 1st, 1947 "Playgoer" playbill from the three-night, National Tour engagement of the NORMAN KRASNA comedy "DEAR RUTH" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production opened December 13th, 1944 at Henry Miller's Theatre in New York City and ran for 680 performances while simultaneously playing on the road.) ..... The play starred ANNE HENDERSON as "Ruth" and the cast included RENA MITCHELL, AMY DOUGLASS, PEGGY ROMANO, RICHARD EARLE, ANTHONY CARR, WILLIAM BUSH, MARY REYNOLDS, FREDERICK ROSS and ARTHUR PRAGER ..... CREDITS: Book by NORMAN KRASNA; Directed by TERRENCE LITTLE; Produced on Broadway by JOSEPH M. HYMAN and BERNARD HART ..... DETAILS: The 36 page playbill measures 6 1/8" X 9 1/4" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, bios of each of the leading actors and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos. Includes advertising and promotional text for the upcoming Pre-Broadway engagement of the ISAAC GREEN, Jr. and EUGENE BERTON musical comedy "LOUISIANA LADY" (last two scanned images). After tryouts, the show would open June 2nd, 1947 at the New Century Theatre in New York City and close after only four performances ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) There is light staining to the outside and bottom edges of the front cover, a light vertical crease and a heavy corner crease at the top right. Despite these flaws, this rare playbill will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
