Description: The January 15, 1776 Rhode Island issue was printed on thin paper by John Carter. This note has a minimalistic typeset design with an emblem of an anchor encircled by the latin motto “IN TE DOMINE SPERAMUS” (In you, Lord, we trust). There is also a fish on the border above the serial number. This issue is generally very scarce in every denomination, especially in lower denominations such as this 9 Pence bill. This was the second smallest denomination of the series. Very desirable and tough to find Rhode Island note from 1776. Out of 6,000 9 Pence notes originally printed, only 1 other example is known to survive today.
