It offers reliable Gen 2+ performance in a compact and ultralight weight design. The dual articulating design of the RNV-31 allows users to operate the unit with either one or both eyes. This is useful when operating a thermal optic or other passive aiming device while maintaining night vision on one side only. This also allows the user to stow the pods comfortably against the helmet for a lower profile while in a vehicle or where head space may be limited. Individual pods are powered off when articulated to eliminate backspash and protect the image intensifier tubes.The RNV-31 is comprised of a simple, minimalist design with similar controls and features to the 1431 and PVS-31 styles of BNVD's. A tactile control knob located on the front of the unit controls power on / off / illumination / gain functions.
