Description: Robert Stroud (1890-1963) He was famously known as the Birdman of Alcatraz. He was imprisoned from the age of 19, for murder. While incarcerated, he became an authority on bird diseases and published his work, "Diseases of Canaries" in 1942. He was the inspiration for the film with Burt Lancaster. Autograph letter signed, one page, Nov. 15th, 1948, written by Stroud during his stay at Alcatraz. He concludes the letter by signing "Bob" and his full name "Robert Stroud," and the number "594."
