Armored space-knight Rom arrives on Earth already infiltrated at all levels by evil beings known as Dire Wraiths, who seem human in every respect except to Rom's analyzer. When he starts blowing away bastions of the community in a small West Virginia town it understandably raises eyebrows. His neutralizer actually banishes Dire Wraiths to limbo rather than killing them (wouldn't want to upset the younger readers, after all), but th effect is the same and Rom finds himself trying to save people who're after his head. Mantlo writes the series from start to finish....The strength...is that there's enough going on, if not to disguise the flaws, certainly to negate them. The always reliable Sal Buscema pencils #1-58....There's no single classic issue of Rom, but they're almost all okay, if undemanding, with plenty of guest stars along the way.
