Description: Royal Copenhagen Figurine Girl with Potatoes No 1549. Measures 27 cm x 20 cm (10 5/8 in. x 7 7/8 in.) and is in good condition. Designed by Christian Thomsen. Thomsen has chosen a powerfully athletic woman to illustrate this aspect of farm life; she is broad in the beam, with muscular arms, and strong features. The action catches her tipping potatoes from her wooden pail into a huge basket, brimming with potatoes. There is sound modelling of the woman's face, her hands, and her clothes; the basket has realistic ozier texture and the pail is evidently made of wood. An uncommon model now, having been taken out of production in 1987, it measures 10 5/8” high, on a rounded base 7" across. Like the person portrayed, it is a robust piece. The modeler's Chr Th can be found on the side of the base, below the basket.
