Description: Solon & Schemmel ( S & S), San Jose, CA 1920-1936 The great tile company dominated the market for high-end tiles in the Bay Area, and many of their installations can be seen today, especially in San Francisco. We are selling two different vintage tile fireplace surrounds. Each has wonderful matte glazing with a vine and leaf pattern on a raised edge. Shown here is matte blue with green leaves and glossy, golden brown vines. Each piece has an organic, hand made feel and was made with rich, red clay. Most of the tiles are 6" x 6". The top row tiles are 6" x 5" down to 6" x 4" for the center tile. The approximate measurements are: 42" wide x 36" tall. Inside dimensions 30" wide x 33" tall at the center and 30" wide on either side. Could vary slightly depending on width of grout lines. In very good condition, has some tiny chips.
